Normal neurodevelopment of children from a mother treated with only Liothyronine (T3) during pregnancy – a case report

Khan Sidrah , Wheatley Trevor

Untreated hypothyroidism in pregnancy is associated with severe neurodevelopmental delay. Based on rodent experiments, maternal T3 is said not cross the placenta and to have little if any role in fetal brain development.Case report: A 36-year-old female with known hypothyroidism treated only with liothyronine (T3) 20 μg TDS. attended the antenatal clinic. It was suggested that she changed to treatment with levothyroxine (T4) or a combination of T3 a...

Radioiodine treatment phone clinic for benign thyroid disease: A service audit and quality improvement project in a large tertiary hospital

Khan Sidrah , Manova Yuliya , Bomanji2 Jamshed , Chung Teng-Teng

Background: Radioiodine treatment (RIT) for benign functioning thyroid disease is an effective treatment for patients with hyperthyroidism. Localisation Challenges in Postmenopausal Hyperandrogenism

Cheah Seong Keat , Miremadi Ahmad , Khan Sidrah , Mathews Anitha , Krishnan Singhan

A 48 years old lady with BMI of 46kg/m2 was postmenopausal since age 45. Due to abdominal discomfort she had an abdominal CT, which incidentally identified bilateral adrenal adenoma (9 mm on right, 18 mm on left, with fat content). This resulted in Endocrinology referral and a history of gradually worsening hirsuitism was uncovered. Her hyperandrogenism was confirmed biochemically with markedly elevated testosterone at 6.5 nmol/l (0.0–1.8), leading to a search ...

Chinnasamy Eswari , Ozair Faisal , Khan Sidrah , Ofori-Asare Emmanuel , Romer Carolyn , Watt-Coote Ingrid , Panahloo Arshia

Overt hyperthyroidism occurs in about 0.1–0.4% of all pregnancies. Propylthiouracil (PTU) is recommended in first trimester due to risk of teratogenicity with Carbimazole (CBZ). CBZ is preferable in rest of the pregnancy and postpartum period due to risk of serious liver disease with PTU. We reviewed our management of hyperthyroidism in pregnancy from 2009 to 2014. Total number of pregnancies =34, mean maternal age 32.6 years. Except one all (33/34) were diagnosed pre- pr...
